Pic of the Day – China's National Day

2 Oct

Yesterday, October 1st, is China’s National Day, commemorating 61 years since the founding of the People’s Republic of China. Usually, this special day is marked by a lot of parades, a lot of showing off of military force, and a lot of fireworks.

Precision is VERY important.

As Hong Kong is a Special Administrative Region of China, October 1st is also a public holiday for us here. Yay!

status – HOT ISSUE!

20 Feb

Right, so this blog, freeingyourwings is almost dead. But alas, like a Phoenix, another rises in its place (too much Harry Potter).

My new blog, http://www.asiawhat.com, will be live hopefully by nextweek.  I’m trying to get some good bloggers to help me out with content. But even if I don’t get them in time, I’ll still take asiawhat.com live as I got some pretty exciting content. Such as…

and…

^_^

By luck, I was at the red carpet premier of Jackie Chan’s newest movie, Little Big Soldier, which also stars the Taiwanese, very talented, hearthrob Wang Leehom, who is one of my favourite Chinese singers. Chinked out!

And today, I managed to get a press pass to 4minute’s showcase in Hong Kong, and was literally 1 meter from them for around 2 hours, so I managed to get a few photos. Well, 600 to be precise. And a few HD vids of their performance too!

So save http://www.asiawhat.com to your bookmarks~

Thanks for your support!  asiaWHAT! –  HWAITING!

PS. If anyone is interested in giving writing for asiawhat.com a go (or would like to know more details), leave a message here with your email address, or email me at:

The most uncomfortable taxi ride EVER

27 Jan

So I had to go to a meeting yesterday with my boss, so we went to catch a taxi.  All conversations were held in Cantonese, unless in bold (English). Warning: A lot of expletives used. Kids, press the big red x in the top right corner.

The following occurred between 2:00pm and 3:00pm. Events occur in real time.

Boss:     Nathan Street please.
Driver:  OK Boss.

10 minute later and some boring conversation I had with my boss, which we held in English…

Driver: You two not from around here?
Boss:     Right, we moved here from abroad.
Driver:  So do you know what this street is famous for?
Boss:     Portland Street… famous for hookers…
Driver:  HAHA even you know this? You come here often?
Boss:     No… but it’s a common fact…
Driver:  You tried any?
[by the way, my boss is the Chief of Economics in my company, has several degrees, masters and PhDs…]

Boss:     … No..
Driver:  Fuck man, I do it all the time. $300 (around USD40 I guess) a pop.
Boss:     Oh? So expensive?
Driver:  Fuckkkk man, that’s what rising prices does. House prices increase, so do hookers! Back in the day, only $200. Now $300. How can I pay? Need work overtime. Motherfking economy screwing us taxi drivers.
Boss:     … Where are they from?
Driver:  Them bitches? Local man. I only do local. You know local? I speaku engrish – local. But they blow so fast as if they have appointment to make. Only 30 minutes and I be getting rushed out of the room. 30 minutes! $300! Damn this shit.
Boss:     I heard there a lot of Russian prosititutes?…
Driver:  No  dude. They all in Macau. Them whores are expensive. $1000. 1000 dollar ah.
Me:        (quietly) I suppose you learnt your English from the Russians..)
Driver:  What you say kid?
Me:        … that orange car is so ugly.
Driver:  Them fucking pricks with their ugly ass sports cars, can’t do shit. What a waste of a car. That’s not a car. That’s a fucking orange with wheels.

[Orange sports car cuts us off and stops in front of traffic to let someone off]
Driver:  Motherfking kids. Think they the shit. (sticks head outside window and flipping them off) GET THE FUCK OUTTA MY WAY ASSHOLE. LEARN TO FUCKING DRIVE.
Boss and me: …

Driver:  Damn assholes, I’d kill them if I could.
Boss and me: heh.. heh.. heh………
Driver:  Hey kid, where you lived abroad?
Me:        England
Driver:  You like French girls? What they like?
Me:        Umm.. skinny…
Driver:  What about English girls?
Me:        Umm… big…
Driver:  LOLOL. True that.  Do white chicks like china sausages?
Me:        … I don’t think it’s their preference…
Boss:     What’s Chinese sausage?
Me:        He means Chinese guys…
Driver:  Chinese sausages. Chiiiiineeeeese sauuuusages ah. You know? Penisuuuu
Boss:     Oh.
Driver:  LMAO. I know one fact though, Japanese girls like black sausages. Blacku sausagy. LMFAO

Boss:     … are we there yet?

fact: men with mustaches are tough

22 Oct

G.O (Jung Byung Hee) also took up the mic by himself with his rendition of “Last Time” by Eric Benet. Proving why he was rightfully chosen as the group’s (MBLAQ’s) main vocalist, he serenaded listeners with his hauntingly soulful voice that dripped with passion through every note. Many praised G.O’s singing ability, to which the talented singer replied, “Although I may appear tough because of my mustache, I will try my best to absolve such judgments with my vocals.”

in other news.. Hwanhee’s debut solo (mini) album, H Soul is the freakin bomb. Go get it!

P.S. Going on hols for several days. Hopefully there will be internet so I can get my daily k-ent/pop news fix! ^_^

happy mid-autumn festival… and chuseok!

4 Oct

So… one of the biggest holidays in China and Korea fall on the same day.  Is chuseok just a Korean version of the traditional Chinese holiday?  Cuz I know Korea also has a new year similar to the Chinese new year.  From what I heard, Chuseok is the Korean ‘thanksgiving’. Mid-autumn is a big festival for Chinese people, and its a public holiday (although this year, the day fell on a Saturday, so no extra day off work – damn it!!!!).  Families get together for a family dinner. Kids play with their lanterns and eat ‘mooncake’.mooncake I had my fun by jacking my 10 year old bro’s scooter and his power ranger lantern, and raced the other little kids and their scooters.  I beat those kids schumacher style – they had no chance against my superior scooter skills. OWNED SUCKERS! ——————-

At Chuseok, korean entertainers publish photoshoots of themselves whearing hanboks (traditional korean clothing).  I think my fav one this year is f(x).  They’re really beautiful, plus 2 members chinese so my chinese pride seeping through there… and i’m a sucker for a pretty girl wearing traditional asian clothing. fx chuseok There was also the BIG IDOL Show which had many of the idol groups participating and putting on some good performances.  Big Bang is back! And not wearing ultra bright clothing – double win!!  Can’t wait for Taeyang’s 1st full length album, which hopefully drops this month – his mini-album was awesome.

HyunA (of 4minute) on the other hand looked like a slut when she was doing her solo dance performance.  The girl can be pretty, but she always puts on the ‘dumb look’, like Paris Hilton.  And I don’t like her voice, I much prefer Jiyoon’s rapping tone.  HyunA omg you irritate me.

Another downer was UEE’s performance, damn she looked like a zombie dancing. No expression at all.  Really don’t understand why she is so popular these days, on so many different shows and being chosen to model for Soju.  Succeeding Hyori? Epic fail.

SNSD were looking fine as usual.  Jessica ❤  I saw the clip of one of the members of 4minute feeling Jessica up as part of a game….
